Recruiting

I’m an Assistant Professor in CSE at UT Arlington. I’m looking for PhD students who are interested in conducting research in data mining and machine learning, particulary in the area of Graph ML (see below for specifics). Current master’s and undergraduate students at UT Arlington are also welcome to apply.

Research Interests:

I’m mainly interested in students looking to work on Graph ML research. Some topics of interest include (but are not limited to): (1) Improving graph OOD generalization, (2) Link prediction, (3) Graph foundation models, (4) Retrieval-augmented generation on graphs, (5) Graph generation.

To be clear, prior research experience or knowledge of these topics is not a prerequisite. Prior to starting my PhD, I had no formal research experience and knew nothing about the area(s) that I eventually worked on. So if you are unsure about reaching out due to lack of experience, it’s not a problem.

Applying

If you are interested in working with me, please email me at harry (dot) shomer at uta (dot) edu.

I recommend you include some basic information about yourself, your CV, and why you want to work with me. I’d also kindly recommend that you read these this post before emailing me or any other potential advisor.

Lastly, I apologize if I don’t respond to you. I get a lot of emails and simply don’t have time to respond to the vast majority of them.
